Notice to Parents/Guardians
by Kristi Exum
Attendance Information
• All absences will be unexecused until a note from a parent/guardian or a doctor is on record in the school office. Notes must be in the office within 72 hours of the student’s return after an absence. Please see the handbook for a list of absences that will likely be excused if a note is received within the 72-hour time limit.
• A note must be on file even if your child is sent home due to illness by the school nurse. Additionally, a phone call from you is greatly encouraged and appreciated, but it is not considered a note. Our office must have written notice on file for every absence we excuse.
• Students will be allowed to make up work for an unexcused absence; however, a grade of no higher than a 60 will be recorded for made-up assignments.
• Warning letters are mailed to parents/guardians at 3 and 5 unexcused absences. Once the 7th unexcused absence is recorded, a notice will be mailed to parents/guardians explaining that a referral was sent to the attendance officer, and charges may be filed.
• Warning letters are mailed to parents/guardians when 3 unexcused absences are accumulated within a four-week period or when 10 unexcused absences are accumulated within a six-month period. In each instance, notice is also sent to the attendance officer, and charges may be filed.
Tardy Information
• Students not in classrooms when the 8:00 bell rings, will be counted TARDY.
• Upon receiving 3 tardies in a semester, the student will serve a day of recess detention.
• A day of recess detention will be issued for 4 and 5 tardies. Upon receiving the 6th tardy, a day of ISS will be served. Additional tardies beyond 6 will result in additional days of ISS.
•Students with 3 or more tardies will not be eligible for perfect attendance awards.
